Dr.Michael Massey,DO grew up in Northern California where he enjoyed playing football and volleyball.When he was 16 he suffered a sports injury that was diagnosed as a lumber herniated disc. This was very painful and he experienced the difficulties as a patient navigating the healthcare system trying to find, and have confidence in the right treatment for injury.Fortunately, he had an Uncle that was completing a fellowship in Pain Medicine at Stanford who helped guide him through the process of physical rehabilitation to recovery rather than having surgery. This inspired him to seek a career in Pain Medicine. He completed medical school at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. From there, he completed a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency with the University of Chicago. He then completed a fellowship in Pain Medicine at University of Washington in Seattle. He is ABMS Board Certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Pain Medicine and Brain Injury Medicine. He has extensive clinical and research experience in the field of Neurosciences, particularly Pain Medicine. Dr. Massey is a reviewer for the Spine Journal and co-authored multiple spine coverage recommendations for the North American Spine Society. He is an expert on Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) authoring a book chapter in the 5th edition of Bonica’s Management of Pain and other articles in peer-reviewed journals. He is a founding member of the International Research Consortium for Complex Regional Pin Syndrome. Dr. Massey has spoken at many conferences and training sessions on Pain Medicine.

Following Pain fellowship, Dr. Massey was appointed to establish an integrated pain medicine service line within CentraCare Health, a healthcare organization with over 8 hospitals and 30 clinics in Minnesota. He was the foundering medical director of CentraCare Neurosciences in Pain Center. During his 5 tenure, he established an interdisciplinary team of physicians, nurse practitioners, physical therapy and ambulatory pharmacy. He also served on multiple committees and boards in an effort to improve patient care within the CentraCare Health system.

After having enough of the cold, Dr. Massey and his family moved to Florida. He spent the last two years as a medical director of Tampa Bay Orthopedic Surgery Group. He is now excited to join the interdisciplinary team at the Shoreline Clinic as medical Director where he feels patients receive the best care possible and meet their rehab and performance goals. Dr. Massey enjoys golfing, fine dining, weight lifting, scuba diving and snowboarding in his free time.
